Franchise History of the New York Jets
The franchise began as the Titans
in the American Football League in 1960. The team changed
its nickname to the Jets in 1963. New York's high point
of their AFL days came with a stunning upset of the NFL's Baltimore
Colts in Super Bowl III. The team returned to the post-season
often during the 1980s and then in 1998 won its first AFC East
crown.
